2-Sided

In iClone, you are allowed to sample a prop as the resource of the emitted particles. However, not all the props are solid objects, and frequently, the props are created with single layer surfaces as shown in the following illustration.

There are only one positive normal direction for the mesh surfaces of this type of prop, which is not rendered when facing the underside.

If you sample props of this kind as the resources of the emitted particles, the particles launched from the undersides will rotate and spin with one-side-invisible issues.

Follow the steps below to solve this issue:

  1. Make sure the particle gizmo is selected.
  2. Select the item from the Resource List in the Particle section of the Modify panel in accordance with the table below.

    Blend Mode

    Mesh Max

    Particle Resource

    Solid Color Lit

    1, 2, 3 or 4

    Emitter/Solid_Color/Mesh_1, Emitter/Solid_Color/Mesh_2, Emitter/Solid_Color/Mesh_3, Emitter/Solid_Color/Mesh_4

    Additive

    1, 2, 3 or 4

    Emitter/Additive/Mesh_1, Emitter/Additive/Mesh_2, Emitter/Additive/Mesh_3, Emitter/Additive/Mesh_4

    In this case, the Emitter/Solid_Color/Mesh_1.

  3. Scroll down to the bottom of this section. Activate the 2 - sided check box.
  4. Simulate or playback again. The invisible-surface issue is solved.
