Pivot and Align Settings for Wall and Pillar parts

The BuildingGen plugin uses the pivot points of the building parts to position each one correctly at the sides or corners of the unit space. Therefore, it's crucial to ensure that the pivot point is accurately placed for the wall and pillar parts.

Adjusting the Wall and Pillar Pivot positions

  1. After applying textures to your imported building parts, select the walls and pillars you wish to edit their pivot position. Navigate to Modify > Attribute > Pivot to do so.
  2. In the Pivot settings, select the options you want the pivot to position on the unit part.
    • Wall part: Quick Set Front > Lower Center.
    • Pillar part: Quick Set Middle > Lower Center
  3. Use Rotate in the 3d gizmo to make sure the front side of the wall is facing the -Y axis as this direction is the front side of the environment.
  4. Navigate to Modify > Attribute > Transform and click the Reset Transform button to save the current scale setting as the new default scale. Click Reset (Zero Out) to set the position and rotation of the selected part to zero on all three axes, moving the part to the World Origin.

Using the Floor Part to Verify Correct Alignment and Pivot Positioning of Walls and Pillars

To verify that the pivot position for the wall and pillar parts is correctly positioned, use the floor part to align and check if the parts pivot has any issues and adjust accordingly.

  1. Before starting to align the wall and pillar parts make sure the floor part is already correctly pivoted. Use the cursor to double-click on the floor thumbnail to load the part onto the scene at the World Origin.
  2. Before using the Align to function to align the parts, select the floor and navigate to Modify > Attribute > Pivot.
  3. Change the floor part pivot position temporarily to where you want the walls and pillars to align.

For wall parts: Quick Set Front > Upper Center

For pillar parts: Quick Set Middle > Upper Right

  4. After the pivot position is completed right-click the wall or pillar and go to Align > Align to.
  5. Select the floor part with the cursor.
  6. The Align to dialog box will appear. Enable all the selections in Move, and select Pivot in Reference Point. In the viewport, the prop will be repositioned in realtime. Click OK to confirm your selection and close the dialog box.
The wall part will align with the side edges of the floor, where the pivot position is set. The pillar part will align with the corner of the floor, where the pivot position is set.
  7. Choose the aligned part in the viewport and save it in the Custom tab. Click this link to learn how to save your building assets.

The saved parts will later be used within the BuildingGen Packager as building parts for the chosen building styles.
