Use the Body Rigs created in 3ds Max to pose your Character

  1. After importing your character into 3ds Max using the CC Auto Setup plugin, navigate to the Body Rig tab.
  2. Choose the type of body rig you want from the Create Rig option. For this example, select the Biped rig option, then click the Create Rig button to initiate the rigging process.

  3. After you have the body rig created, go to the scene tree and select all the character's mesh parts, right-click the model, and open the Object Properties… panel.
  4. In the Interactivity section make sure Freeze is selected. In Display Properties only activate the Edges Only option to prevent selecting the mesh when posing the character.
  5. In the Scene Tree, double-click the rig part to select the entire body rig.
  6. Right-click one of the body rigs in the viewport and select Object Properties….
  7. In the Object Properties panel ensure that the See-Through, and Show Frozen in Gray options are both deactivated in the Display Properties section. Activate the Display as Box option to view the rig when hovering over it in the viewport, allowing for easy selection when posing your character.
  8. Use the tools available in the Motion tab to pose your character.
  9. After you have finished posing, navigate to the Copy/Paste section.
  10. Click the Pose option to save the pose of your entire character model.
  11. Click the Copy Pose icon to save your character’s pose.
  12. Once you have saved multiple poses, switch to a different pose by opening the Copied Poses drop-down menu and selecting the pose you want to display.
  13. Click the Paste pose icon to apply the selected pose option to the character, changing its pose accordingly.
