Exporting FBX Characters (New for v3.1)

You can export a character in FBX format in order to animate it in your favorite 3D tools, such as 3Ds Max or Maya instead of sending the character to 3DXchange for exporting. 3DXchange Pipeline Version is required.

Export Static FBX Character

To export bone-skinned FBX characters for animation:

  1. Prepare a character (nude or clothed).
  2. Execute File >> Export >> FBX (Clothed Character) command.

  3. The Export panel shows:
    1. Target Tool Preset: Use the drop-down list to determine the target 3D tool into which you want to load the FBX file.
    2. Advanced Settings: There are certain advanced settings that will be automatically set after you select different Target Tool Preset.
    3. Export Types: You can use the drop down list to determine if you want to export Character, Motion or Character with Motion FBX files.
    4. Prefix / Postfix: These setting can be used to add prefix or postfix to the file name.
    5. Texture Setting: Use the settings to determine the texture's size and format.
    6. Include Motion: You are able to append motions (Calibration Motion, iMotion, MotionPlus) into the exported FBX.
    7. Delete Hidden Mesh: Activate this box to delete the hidden meshes to downsize of the FBX file. If your purpose for exporting FBX character is creating custom cloth, then please DO NOT activate this box to ensure the integrity of the inner meshes.
    8. Remesher: These settings are used to re-build the meshes to downsizing or create LOD effect for the FBX file. However it's a destructive process since topology will be different after the model has been remeshed.
    9. Merge Material: These settings can be used to merge materials for downsizing the FBX file.
  4. Click the Export button to export the character in FBX format.
  5. Load the exported FBX character into your 3D software of choice.
  6. This character is bone-skinned and ready for animation.
