Exporting Smart Hair to 3D Tools (New for v3.4)
The Smart Hair, including the eyebrows and beards, can be exported along with the character to external 3D tools for animation. However, since the skin weight settings are not included, the hair's morphing sliders will be exported for further use in 3rd party applications. The facial expressions and hair morph sliders must work together to animate comprehensive facial expressions.
- Apply facial hairs to a character.
- Export the character in FBX format. At the bottom of the Export FBX
panel, you may want to activate the Merge facial hairs into one object box to merge the beard and eyebrows into single object.
Merged
- Load the exported character into external 3D tool (in this case, Maya).
- Since the skin weights of the smart hair are not exported, when you produce expressions for the character, the facial hair does not move along.
- To animate the facial hair, open the Morph window. The merged facial hair as a single item, is also listed.
- Adjust the morph slider under the object/item.
- The facial hair can then be morphed to fit the expressions.
Not Merged
- Load the exported character into external 3D tool (in this case, Maya).
- Since the skin weights of the smart hair are not exported, when you produce expressions for the character, the facial hairs
fail to move along.
- To animate the facial hair, open the Morph window. The facial hair items are also listed.
- Adjust the morph sliders under the objects.
- The facial hair thus can be morphed to fit the expressions.
- Repeat the same steps for the rest of the facial hair items for
best results.
