Defining Light Rays with IES
IES stands for the Illuminating Engineering Society, which is a type of file, in *.ies format, for describing the distribution of light from a light source. The IES standard file format was created for the electronic transfer of photo-metric data over the web. It has been widely used by many lighting manufacturers and is one of the industry standards in photo-metric data distribution. In iClone, you can directly apply the IES only to spotlights and point lights.
- Create a new project.
- Create a spotlight or a point light (in this case, a spotlight); make sure the light is selected.
- Open the Content Manager and switch to the IES content library under the Media Template category.
- In the Modify panel, scroll to the IES section under the Attribute tab.
- Drag and drop an IES template from the library to the channel in the IES section.
The light rays will be instantly modified. - Modify the settings of the light (color, strength...) to have the best result.
