Saving Clips with Encased Keys

Depending on the save method, encased keys (layer keys) may either be flattened or preserved in their original state when saved into a motion clip file.

Given a project in which a character has facial expressions, motion clips, and layer keys applied.

Saving with Content Manager - Keys Flattened

When you save facial expressions or motions using the Content Manager, all clips and their encased keys within the entire project range will be flattened and saved.

  1. Open the Content Manager and switch to the Motion, MotionPlus, or Expression libraries.

  3. The clips and their encased layer keys within the entire project range will be flattened and saved as a file (*.rlMotion, *.rlMotionPlus, *.iTalk).

    Motion / MotionPlus

  4. If you apply the file to any character, the clip length will be identical to the original project, but without the layer keys.

Saving with Collect Clip Feature - Keys Flattened

With the Collect Clip feature, you can specify the range for exporting the clips. However, the clips and their encased keys within the range will also be flattened and saved.

  1. Open the character's Collect Clip track and drag across it to define a range.
  2. Right-click within the range and choose Save > Save Motion / Save MotionPlus / Save Expression.
  3. The clips and their encased layer keys within the specified range will be flattened and saved as a file (*.rlMotion, *.rlMotionPlus, *.iTalk).
