Lighting for Indigo Rendering

In the Environment Settings section, you may determine if you want to use the iClone lights, iClone 2D background or the default Indigo light as the lighting source for rendering the current scene. However, you are free to export additional lights that are created in iClone along with current project to Indigo, in order to generate more lighting effects for rendering.

Adding Additional Lights for Rendering in Indigo

  1. Prepare a project in iClone.

    Note:

Please note that there are only a plane, a prop, two directional lights, a point light and a spotlight in this project.

  2. The lights are automatically included in the iClone Lights List in the Indigo Render Settings panel as candidates.

  3. Determine the environment option in the Indigo Environment section (in this case, the Indigo Sun and Sky is chosen and the Direction and Angle are set as shown below).

Therefore, the Indigo default light is set as shown in the following illustration.
  4. Activate or deactivate the box in the Active column for choosing the lights to be exported as additional lights for rendering.

Only the point light will be exported to indigo for rendering

  5. Click the Render Scene button on the iClone Indigo Render toolbar to preview the result.

    Preview the result.

    Note:

    Please refer to

Further Adjustments for Lights

After previewing the result, you may sometimes need to adjust the lights further.

Size

Before you start to adjust them, it is important to note that although in iClone lights are simple dummies used to emit light which won't be rendered, they will be rendered in Indigo as true 3D entities.

Three types of lights in iClone

3D entities given to these lights in Indigo

If you are not satisfied with the size of these light entities, then you can adjust their size.

  1. Pick the light for changing size from the iClone Lights candidate list (for the example in the previous section, the point light).
  2. Drag the Size slider under the list to determine the size of the light to be seen in the rendered scene.

    Note:

The strength of the light will be changed along with the size of the lights.

  3. Render the scene in Indigo again.

Strength

When the strength of the iClone lights do not give a satisfying result, or the lights are darker due to their decreased size, you may need to increase the light strength.

  1. Go back to iClone and select the light from the Scene Manager.
  2. In the Modify panel, adjust the Strength value for the light.
  3. Render the scene again in Indigo.

    Note:

This method is only suitable for lights without any animations.
