Using Static Noise Effects

The iClone default project provides the static noise post-effect which can be adjusted under the Visual > Effect menu. You can use them to create old film effect for your scene and smooth out flaws from color banding.

Create Old Film Effect

  1. Prepare a project.
  2. Switch to the Stage tab in the Content Manager. You will see several built-in templates in the Effect library.
  3. Double-click on the Color Adjust templates to apply this effect to the project.
  4. Adjust the Brightness, Contrast and Gray Style settings in the Visual panel >> Effect tab to desaturate the entire scene.
  5. Apply the Static Noise template.

The noise effect may not be very obvious after this step.
  6. Adjust the Strength and Size values (100, 50). The entire scene is then changed to an old film effect.

Smoothing Color Band Visual Flaws

If you find the serious color band visual flaws caused by the Blurry Sky, GI, HDR or Particle effects, then you can use the Static Noise effect to alleviate the defects.

  1. Create a project; as you can see there are a lot of color bands or solid colors at the back ground because of the particle effect.
  2. Apply the Static Noise effect from the Content Manager and adjust the Strength and Size values.
  3. The color band issues are then eliminated.
