Turning on Image Base Lighting for PBR

The PBR materials basically behave like the material in the real world. They absorbs and reflects lights. Therefore, without lights, the PBR effect is not obvious.

In order to observe the PBR materials, you need to set lights. However, if you want to create a scenario that lights up the character from Omni-direction, then you have to add a lot of directional, point lights or spotlights around the character, which is tedious and time consuming.

The IBL (image base lighting) is a good solution because you only need one image to simulate the environment surrounding the character with lights. You are able to view the character from different perspectives for better observation with enough lights.

  • The PBR materials without any light.
  • The PBR materials reflect the lights (Self-cast shadows).
  • The PBR materials reflect the IBL (No shadows).
  • The PBR materials reflect both the light and IBL (PBR and shadows).
  • Turn the Sky sphere on for better observation of the direction of the IBL (Sync Sky Image is ON).
