About fbxkey file
The FBX Key file ensures the correctness of the skin and bone status when you load
back the FBX Character File modified in external 3D tools. Moreover, please
keep these two files together when you want to move and share the FBX Character.

The FBX Key is generated only when exporting a character-only FBX for round-trip editing, and is not generated when exporting a full scene that includes cameras or props.
The FBX key file contains the following data:
- DRM Base Content Information.
- Meta Data:
- Bone scale for each bone of the character.
- Body skin weight for each vertex on the character.
- Clothing type such as cloth, gloves or shoes.
You must load the FBX key file when you import an FBX character from other 3D tools to ensure correct body shape and clothing types. Without the FBX key file, the character will NOT be able to be imported back to Character Creator.
Limitations and Requirements
The FBX Key is generated only when exporting to external 3D editing software such as 3ds Max, Maya, or Blender. It is not generated for game engines like Unity or Unreal, as they are not 3D editing tools and their auto-setup processes may modify character data.
The FBX Key will also not be generated if destructive data structures are selected during export. Destructive options include:
- Delete Hidden Mesh
- InstaLOD
These options alter the standard mesh structure, which prevents the character from being sent back to Character Creator.
