Surface Editing

The transforming mesh faces involves with moving, rotating, scaling, smoothing and relaxing the faces on the meshes.

Moving, Rotating and Scaling Faces

  1. Apply cloth template to the character (in this case, a pair of pants).
  2. Select the pants and go to the Modify panel >> Edit tab >> Mesh Modifier section.
  3. Press down the Edit Mesh Mode button.
  4. Select mesh faces for transforming.
  5. Switch to the Scale tool to increase the size of the faces.
  6. Move the faces with the Move tool.
  7. Change the perspective of the camera to check the result.
  8. Use the Rotate tool to rotate the selected faces.
  9. Repeate the same steps for the other leg of the pants.
  10. Leave the Edit Mesh Mode by pressing up the Edit Mesh Mode button.

    Note:

    By combining Transforming and Hiding Meshes features, you can change the pants into a trousers.

Smoothing and Relaxing

The Smooth and Relax features have the same behavior, to average the faces in order to even the entire surface. However, the Relax feature tries its best to keep the original shape of the mesh while the Smooth does not.

  1. Given a character with a T-shirt.
  2. Morph the body shape. You will see the cloth shows sharp edges as the body changes.
  3. Enter the Edit Mesh Mode by the method described in the previous section.
  4. Select the cloth and enter the Mesh Edit Mode.
  5. Pick the faces that form sharp edges.
  6. Smooth the surfaces by clicking the Smooth or Relax button.
