Creating Animatable lights

If you want to create Unreal lights that are well-prepared for being driven by the lights in iClone, instead of using the lights from the Content Browser, you should create the lights through the iClone Live Link plug-in.

  1. In Unreal, create or load a scene.
  2. click the iClone Live Link button in the toolbar and choose to Create Spot Light, Create Point Light or Create Directional Light.
  3. A new light will be created in the current level of Unreal.
  4. In iClone, apply a light of the same type of the Unreal one (in this case, a directional light)
  5. Rename the light.
  6. Open the Live Link plug-in panel, switch to the Link mode and make sure the circle for the light is activated. Enable the Active Link button to connect iClone with Unreal.
  7. Go back to Unreal, open the Details panel. Set the light's Subject Name in the Live Link section. Keep in mind that the Subject Name must be identical to the one you find in the Live Link panel in stead of the one in iClone because the name can be modified occasionally and listed in the Subject Name section.

Now the light is ready to be driven by iClone.
  8. Start to animate the directional light in iClone. As you see the directional light assigned with the same name in Unreal will be animated as well.
    • Color Animation: Setting strength keys of the light in iClone.
    • Transform Animation: Link the light to an animated ball in iClone.
    • Game View mode: Hide the light gizmo to view the result.
