Using Position Lock (New for v1.1)
Position Lock is an approach to lock your character in one position. It allows users to generate Root Motion which can be saved for Path Animation, or create motion loops for games.
Enable Position Lock
You can stay focused on the character body motion in the center of the screen by ignoring the transformation data received from the mocap device. Then add transform keys to the character for post production in Cartoon Animator.
-
Make sure the character is selected.
-
Click the Motion LIVE 2D button on the Add-on Toolbar.
Alternatively, go to Plugins >> Motion LIVE 2D >> Motion LIVE 2D.
- When the Motion LIVE 2D panel displays, connect it to the Body Mocap Device.
- Enter the Preview mode.
As shown below, the motion is offset from the original position of the character.
- Activate the Position Lock checkbox in the Body mode so that the X-Y position offset can be locked.
-
Preview and record the motions captured from the mocap device.
As shown below, the motion will now be performed at a same position.
- Close the Motion LIVE 2D panel.
Go to a desired frame, and add one Transform key by moving, rotating or scaling the character.
- Go to another frame and set another Transform key.
- Repeat the same steps to generate a custom key-frame animation.
- If you are satisfied with the result, you can collect the Transform keys and the mocap data into one motion clip for future use.
Unlock Position Height
After you turn on the Position Lock, the character's body motions can be captured in the center of the screen. However, you can enable Unlock Height to animate the character at the same spot with an up-down offset, such as jumping high or doing a squat.
-
Make sure the character is selected.
- Enter the Preview mode.
Perform some motions that will change the height of the hip.
- Activate the Position Lock checkbox in the Body mode.
-
As you can see that since the hip's position is locked,
the body motions have a visual focus in the center of the screen.
The character cannot move its hip down.
- Activate the Unlock Height checkbox to free up the height of the hip when the hip moves.
-
Now you can see that since the hip's height is unlocked,
the motion will be correct.
