Correctly Categorizing Clothes

Before CC 5.2, clothing was assigned numeric layer values (1–20) to determine its layering order. While this approach was useful for replacing garments, the layer numbers were difficult to remember and could easily be assigned incorrectly when creating custom content.

After Transfer Skin Weight

Use Re-assign Cloth Type to correct clothing type assignments for existing garments, especially custom clothing created before Character Creator 5.2 with incorrect type assignments or after Transfer Skin Weight in version 5.2 or later.

Example: Transferring Skin Weights and Re-assigning Cloth Type

  1. Import the custom clothing and position it correctly on the character.
  2. Use Transfer Skin Weight to transfer the character's skin weights to the clothing.
  3. Once the transfer is complete, select the clothing and open Re-assign Cloth Type.
  4. Choose the correct clothing type for the garment.
  5. Confirm the assignment and verify that the clothing is categorized correctly by clicking the Apply button.

Via Cloth Layer Settings Panel

The Cloth Layer Settings panel in CC 5.2 introduces a new classification system that groups the previous numeric layers into eight easy-to-understand categories: Gloves, Shoes, Skin-tight Top, Skin-tight Bottom, Lower Body, Upper Body, Coats, and Others.

  1. Apply a character and garments.
  2. Execute Windows >> Cloth Layer Settings command to launch the panel.
  3. Click the Gear icon of the cloth.

The Convert Cloth Type panel appears. As you can see, the type is not correct occasionally.
  4. Select the correct cloth type and click the OK button.
  5. Save the cloth to the corresponding library in the Content Manager. As you can see the small icon on the left-upper corner of the thumbnail implies the updated category of the cloth.
  6. Open another project in which the character is dressed up.
  7. Apply the newly added cloth template.

Due to the identical cloth type already on the character, you will be prompted a inquiery dialog for replacing or adding the cloth.
  8. Click Add or Replace button in accordance with your need.
