Importing DAZ Studio Character Poses to Character Creator

The DAZ Studio library provides static Pose templates (single frame) that can be applied to characters. If different Pose templates are applied at different points in time, poses can be used to create animations rather than just static poses. Whether they are static poses or animations created from poses, both can be imported into Character Creator through the capabilities of the FBX format and the features provided by Character Creator.

Export FBX with Pose from DAZ Studio

  1. Add a character in DAZ Studio (G3, G8, G8.1, G9, HD).

    Converting the character to Character Creator in Basic or Advanced mode.
  2. Open the Timeline and set the start and end frames to determine the project range.
    • For generating a pose: set the range to only 1 frame to include the pose.
    • For generating motion with poses: set the range to include all poses.
  3. In the first frame, apply a pose from the Content Manager.

    ** Notice that you are allowed to apply various poses at different timeframes within the project range to create pose animation.
  4. Export the character in FBX format, making sure the Include Animation checkbox is activated. Click the Accept button to save the character and motion to a file.

Import Pose FBX to Character Creator

  1. Go to Character Creator and use the character converted in step one from the previous section. (You can apply any CC3+ or CC5 HD character as well.)
  2. Make sure the character is selected and go to File > Import > Import External Motion.
  3. Select the FBX file of the pose exported from DAZ Studio previously.
  4. The Characterization profile will be automatically set up. Click the Convert All button.

    As you can see, the pose will be imported.
  5. You can save the pose to the Custom Pose library.
