Basic Concepts
Before using Motion Director, it is highly suggested to understand the basic concepts.
To start or stop playing the character with Motion Director, simply press Ctrl + R on your keyboard or the play button on your gamepad.
You can customize the hotkeys in the Hotkey Manager.
Behavior files (iMD) are used to trigger the characters to animate.
It has an official hierarchy in order to correctly function.
- In order to animate characters with Motion Director, you must apply
behaviors.
Notice that each character can have multiple Behaviors applied. - Each behavior contains multiple Modes, currently, two modes, including Casual and Athletic.
- Inside of each mode, there can be various speeds, in this case,
'Stroll', 'Walk' and 'Jog' under the 'Casual' mode.
- Each speed is bestowed with several perform-motions.
- Mix-motion are introduced to blend motions to the
other upper body motions.
Each 'Main Mixer' possesses sub-mixer motions that can be triggered after the character performs the main mixer motions.
When you play the character with Input Device mode, you can set waypoints to drive the character's traveling target directions.
- Hold the Alt key and click left mouse button to create multiple waypoints
to navigate the character.
- By holding the Alt key, right-click on the floor to set an absolute waypoint,
thereby cancelling all other waypoints.
When you play the character with Input Device or Path-Restricted mode, you can accelerate or decelerate the character's moving speed with hotkeys:
- To accelerate character's movement by one level, press Shift key.
- To decelerate character's movement by one level, press Ctrl key.
You can customize the acceleration and deceleration keys in the Hotkey Manager.
When you are playing the character, you can change the perspective of the free camera by the mouse buttons:
Mouse:
- Left Mouse Button: To pan the free camera.
- Right Mouse Button: To orbit the free camera around the character.
Gamepad:
- Right Analog Stick: To orbit the free camera around the character.
You can customize the keys in the Hotkey Manager.
- In Motion Director system, there is only one invisible camera, named
'MD Camera', which is used to view the character and the scene. You can neither see nor select it.
When you start to play the character, system will always view the scene through this 'MD Camera'. - If you choose the Free Camera in the setting
panel. The camera will no longer follow the character, and you can change
its position and perspective.
You can adjust the perspective of the 'Free Camera' on the MD Triggers window. - By choosing the Follow Camera option, then the
'Follow Camera' splits into eight different perspectives.
You can find these eight perspectives of 'Follow Camera' on the MD Triggers panel. Five of them can be customized.
