Generating AI-Based Pattern Textures

With the assistance of the Stable Diffusion 1.5 AI model, you can design fabrics or patterns to create seamless plaids, herringbone, or geometric designs from motifs by filling areas with small tiles to modify the clothing's appearance.

  1. Ensure that ComfyUI with the required AI models are installed and that FashionGen is successfully connected to ComfyUI to enable AI image generation.
  2. Launch the AI Generation panel and select the Pattern tab.
  3. Write prompts for AI Pattern generation.
    • Positive Prompt: Enter a clear description of the fabric or pattern you want to generate.
For example, Chaotic yet harmonious ink spray pattern, fractal-like splashes, high-energy droplets fading into soft ink clouds, atmospheric depth, minimal color monochrome palette
    • Negative Prompt: Enter the details you want to exclude from the generated image. This field is pre-filled with common removal terms, so you may leave it as is.
Default terms: watermark, text, error, blurry, jpeg artifacts, cropped, worst quality, low quality, normal quality, jpeg artifacts, signature, watermark, username
Note that the Token count follows the SD1.5 specifications adopted by Reallusion. Any tokens beyond the 75-token limit will be ignored.
  4. Load reference images to control texture distribution and motif. Here we leave this field empty to generate textures solely from the prompts.
  5. Adjust the AI generation parameters in the Sampler section as needed.
    • Steps: Controls how many iterations the AI runs to generate an image. You can drag the slider or click one of the 3 preset buttons: Fast, Balanced, and Detailed. These presets correspond to the following step counts:

      Fast

      Balanced

      Detailed

      Steps

      15

      40

      50

Higher step counts can produce more detail but take longer to process.
    • CFG: Controls how strictly the AI follows your prompt. You can drag the slider or click one of the 3 preset buttons: Creative, Balanced, and Faithful. These presets correspond to the following CFG values:

      Creative

      Balanced

      Faithful

      CFG

      2.0

      7.0

      8.0

Higher CFG means tighter adherence; lower CFG gives the AI more creative flexibility.
  6. Click the Generate Pattern button at the bottom of the panel. Once generated, the pattern is automatically applied to the clothing. Use the Layer Transform tools in the Texture Editor to adjust the tiling, position, and orientation as needed.

The output image is also saved in the Custom library of the Content Manager for future texture regeneration and can be shared among team members.
  7. A new pattern layer will appear in the Layer Manager. Use the eye icon to show or hide the layer and compare the before-and-after results.

Base or previous layer (Tweed Fabric).

    After applying the generated pattern.

  8. Optionally, change the layer’s Blending Mode to observe the effects of different blending options.
  9. Execute File > Send Textures to CC (Keep Layers) command or click the Send Textures to CC (Keep Layers) button on the toolbar to view the textures applied to the character.
  10. If you want to see how it looks on other characters, save it to the Custom library in the Content Manager, then apply the custom clothing to other characters.
